Yogi Govt Declares ‘No Non-Veg Day’ In UP, All Meat Shops To Be Shut

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-helmed Uttar Pradesh government has declared November 25 as ‘No Non-Veg Day’.

All meat shops and slaughterhouses will remain closed on this date across the state.

‘No Non-Veg Day’ will be observed to mark the birth anniversary of Sadhu Thanwardas Lilaram Vaswani, according to an official statement.

Sadhu Vaswani was an Indian educationist who started the Mira Movement In Education and set up St Mira’s School in Hyderabad in Sindh (now in Pakistan). Darshan Museum, dedicated to his life and teaching, was opened in Pune.

His birthday on November 25 is recognised as International Vegetarian Day.

The UP government recently imposed a ban on production, storage, distribution and sale of food products with halal certification but exempted products man.”ufactured for export.

The Yogi government alleged that “malicious attempts” to discourage use of products lacking a halal certificate seek “unfair financial benefits” and also form part of a “pre-planned strategy to sow class hatred, create divisions in society, and weaken the country by anti-national elements.”
