Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a stringent set of regulations regarding the character verification of applicants seeking state government employment. Under the new and firmly outlined policy, individuals found to have participated in violence aimed at a “regime change” or those involved in severe criminal activities will be permanently disqualified from securing government jobs.
The revised policy significantly tightens the background checks for prospective employees. While provisions against anti-state activities existed previously, they have now been far more explicitly defined. According to the state government’s mandate, any candidate who is a member of an organisation that seeks to overthrow or change the system through violent means—often termed a ‘regime change’—will be deemed entirely ineligible for public service.
Additionally, the state government has explicitly closed the doors to candidates implicated in severe offences. Individuals found involved in murder, dacoity, rape, outraging modesty, corruption, terrorist acts, paper leaks, or those linked with “solver gangs” will face immediate disqualification.
However, the administration has introduced a critical distinction to ensure fairness. Officials have clarified that an applicant will not be deprived of employment solely based on their political ideology or merely because a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against them. The disqualification will only hold if the individual is proven to be involved in the specified violent or criminal acts, ensuring that mere pending investigations or dissenting political views do not unfairly jeopardise a candidate’s career.
The updated guidelines also include specific provisions regarding age and the timeframe of suspicious activities. For applicants over the age of 21, participation in ‘regime change’ activities within three years prior to the date of the background investigation will be considered evidence of active involvement in such subversive actions.
This strict stance from the Yogi government comes in response to recent instances of regime change protests and related violence. Officials state that the primary objective of this new policy is to foster greater accountability among the youth and ensure that the state machinery is free from individuals who pose a threat to law and order. These stringent character verification rules will be uniformly applicable across all departments, commissions, and recruitment boards of the Uttar Pradesh government.
