With 2 Months Left In 2021, 78% Of Eligible Indians Have Got 1st Dose, 35% Fully Jabbed

New Delhi: With exactly two months left for 2021 to pass by, where does India’s vaccination coverage stand?

According to Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya, 78 per cent of the eligible population in the country have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 35 per cent have been fully inoculated.

It the 290th day of India’s COVID vaccination drive, that got underway on January 16 this year.

The daily pace of vaccination has varied a lot.

Eight days have seen more than 1 crore doses being administered, with the record being 2.3 crore on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday (September 17).

On Sunday, however, just 1.2 million people got the jab, while on Monday, the number was 5.1 million doses till 9 pm. The cumulative number of doses administered in India is 106.85 crore.

With 61 days remaining in the year, fully vaccinating all adults seems to be a distant dream.

The government is concerned about low vaccination rate in some districts across the country. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister will meet district magistrates of 40 districts to discuss the vaccination situation. The respective state chief ministers are also scheduled to attend that meeting.
