New Delhi: One of the most often-used instant messaging apps WhatsApp is about to add a new tool improving user security and privacy. This future function gives consumers more control over their video interactions by letting them turn off their camera before accepting video chats.
The camera currently turns on automatically upon receiving a video call; users cannot turn it off before answering. Found in WhatsApp’s Android beta version 2.25.7.3, the new capability shows a “Close Your Video” option when receiving a video call. Users of this option can guarantee that their camera stays off, therefore transforming the call into a voice-only connection. Given the increasing online frauds, where unwelcome video calls could compromise users’ privacy, this development is especially important.
Apart from this privacy-orientated function, WhatsApp is also looking at additional improvements such as UPI Lite, meant to streamline quick and minor transactions. Like UPI Lite on other platforms, this ability—which is now under testing—will let consumers pay without entering a PIN. Although UPI Lite’s distribution schedule is yet unknown, it is expected to compete with big payment apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.
