Vote From Home: ‘Remote’ Facility Likely To Be Available By 2024 General Elections

New Delhi: In a major electoral reform, remote voting facility is likely to be available to Indians by the time next Lok Sabha elections are held in 2024.

According to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora, the first pilot project of remote voting system is expected to begin within two or three months.

It will help people, who for some reason can’t visit polling booths on election day, to exercise their franchise from a remote location.

“Remote voting may see the light of the day by 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A team of technocrats and experts from IIT, Chennai and some other IITs are working on it in full swing. We hope to see the first pilot project in next 2-3 months,” Arora said during the Sansad Ratna Awards 2021 event on Saturday.
