New Delhi: A video featuring Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has gone viral on social media, sparking a fresh political row. In the brief clip, which was shot during the INDIA bloc’s recent protest march to the Supreme Court, Gandhi is purportedly seen elbowing or nudging aside a party worker. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been quick to seize upon the footage, launching a sharp attack against the Congress leader.
The incident occurred as leaders and supporters of the INDIA alliance were marching towards the apex court to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The video footage shows the crowd moving forward on the street, with prominent figures like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Neha Bora walking ahead. Suddenly, as some enthusiastic workers attempt to move ahead from the side, Rahul Gandhi is seen stepping in to stop them, seemingly using his elbow to push one of the workers away to clear the path.
As soon as the video surfaced online, the BJP heavily criticized the Congress leader’s behavior. Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the official BJP handle shared the video clip along with a mocking caption. The post read, “After continuous lies and 99 defeats, look at Rahul Gandhi’s condition! Now he is thrashing his own workers…” The BJP’s post further included text overlays claiming that a frustrated Rahul Gandhi, irritated by constant electoral setbacks, has resorted to hitting his own party members.
Beyond the specific video, the BJP also intensified its broader criticism of the opposition’s march to the Supreme Court. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi strongly condemned the protest, characterizing it as an attempt to plunge the country into “anarchy.”
Trivedi lashed out at the opposition, stating, “The cheap scenes witnessed at the Supreme Court in Delhi have no precedent in the history of India. Bringing a mob to influence and intimidate the court, I believe no opposition leader has ever done this before.”
