In many Indian homes, the top of the refrigerator often becomes an impromptu storage spot for everything from heavy utensils to medicines and even puja items, thanks to limited space.
However, according to Vastu Shastra, this common practice can disrupt the flow of positive energy, potentially leading to stress, health issues, and family discord.
Vastu experts emphasise that the refrigerator symbolises the cool, heavy energy associated with water and stability. Placing heavy objects on top is believed to imbalance this energy, creating mental tension or discomfort in the household. “Heavy items on the fridge press down on the home’s vital forces,” note traditional Vastu principles, advising against it to maintain harmony.
Medicines are another strict no-no. As they carry the energy of illness, storing them atop the fridge — already linked to cold and stagnation — may invite health problems, warn Vastu guidelines.
Electronic items like chargers, extension boards, or adapters also top the avoid list. The fridge already emits electromagnetic fields; adding more gadgets can amplify fire element energy, possibly sparking irritability, arguments, or financial strain.
Religious objects, such as deity photos, holy books, or puja materials, should never grace the fridge top. Vastu views this as disrespectful to sacred items, which deserve a dedicated puja space or temple area.
Even decorative touches like small plants or water-filled vessels are discouraged. Water elements clash with the fridge’s electrical nature, risking energy imbalance.
The best advice? Keep the fridge top clean, clear, and clutter-free to invite positive vibes and well-being.
