Mumbai: In a masterclass of fearless batting, 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a blistering 175 off just 80 balls to power India U19 to a dominant 100-run victory over England in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final at Harare Sports Club.

The triumph secured India’s record-extending sixth title in the tournament’s history.

Batting first, India posted a mammoth 411/9, with Suryavanshi’s explosive knock — studded with 15 fours and 15 sixes — stealing the show. Reaching his century in a mere 55 balls, he outshone England’s valiant effort, where Caleb Falconer scored a fighting 115, as the defending side was bundled out for 311 in 40.2 overs.

Named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament, the Bihar youngster displayed remarkable maturity in the post-match ceremony. In an emotional moment that won hearts worldwide, he dedicated his awards to the team’s support staff.

“I dedicate my Player of the Match to the support staff,” Suryavanshi said. “In the last eight to nine months, the support staff and team worked together, and their preparations played a giant role in where we are today. Everyone put in tremendous effort.”

He also spoke confidently about his big-match temperament: “I know I can perform well in big matches and under pressure, so I always stay confident and trust myself.”

Under captain Ayush Mhatre’s leadership, India’s young brigade showcased exceptional teamwork and skill, reinforcing their status as the most successful U19 side ever. Fans hailed the teenager’s humility amid his stardom, with many noting how the “kid has become big” in poise and gratitude.
