New Delhi: As India prepares for the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Saturday organised a massive nationwide exercise whereby an end-to-end mock drill on vaccine administration was conducted.
The process was undertaken at 286 session sites, spread across 125 districts in all states and Union Territories.
Each district conducted the dry run at three or more sites which included a public health facility (District Hospital/Medical College), Private Health Facility, and rural or urban outreach sites.
All state and district officials were trained on operational guidelines and for conducting the dry run. The idea is to test the mechanisms laid out for COVID vaccination roll-out in the health system and to assess operational feasibility of using Co-WIN application in field environment for planning, implementation and reporting at the block, district and state level.
The dry run will help familiarize state, district, block and hospital-level officers with all aspects of vaccine roll-out.
The Co-WIN software — developed by MoHFW for real-time information of vaccine stocks, storage temperature and individualized tracking of beneficiaries for the vaccine — will assist programme managers through automated session allocation for pre-registered beneficiaries and their verification. After successful completion of the vaccine schedule, a digital certificate will be generated.
Over 75 lakh beneficiaries have been registered on Co-WIN software till date.
