Hospital Worker Dies Day After COVID Vaccine Shot

Lucknow: A ward boy at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad died on Sunday evening, 24 hours after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine shot.

The district’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), however, said the death was unrelated to vaccination.

The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Mahipal Singh. According to his family, Mahipal had been unwell before receiving the vaccine and died after complaining of chest congestion and breathlessness.

“He was vaccinated around noon on Saturday. On Sunday, he felt breathless and complained of chest congestion. We are inquiring into the reasons of the death. It does not seem to be a reaction to the vaccination. He did night duty on Saturday too and there were no problems,” NDTV quoted CMO (Moradabad) MC Garg as saying.

On Monday, the UP government issued a statement saying that the post-mortem report revealed the immediate cause of death as “cardiogenic shock/septicemic shock” due to “cardio-pulmonary disease”,

The deceased’s son, Vishal, told the media that his father was unwell before the vaccination, but he felt worse after receiving the shot.

“My father left the vaccination centre around 1.30 pm, I brought him home. He was feeling breathless and coughing. He had a bit of pneumonia, the usual cough and cold, but he started feeling worse after returning home,” the son said.
