Hyderabad: A massive political row has erupted in Telangana following allegations of a severe coal scam at the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. Taking strict cognizance of the issue, Union Coal Minister and Secunderabad Member of Parliament G Kishan Reddy has written a formal letter to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, demanding an immediate and thorough investigation.
In his communication dated June 10, the Union Minister expressed deep concern over alarming reports which suggest that nearly forty lakh tonnes of coal, valued at approximately Rs 1600 crore, have mysteriously vanished from the stockpiles of the state run mining corporation. Reddy asserted that the disappearance of such a massive quantity of national resources is an extremely serious issue that mandates an urgent probe to establish the facts and ensure strict accountability.
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited operates as a crucial joint venture between the Telangana state government and the Central government, holding an equity sharing ratio of 51 to 49 respectively. Despite the Centre having a significant stake in the public sector undertaking, Kishan Reddy pointed out that the involvement of the Union government in the daily operational oversight is almost negligible.
Highlighting the severe consequences of the alleged irregularities, the Union Minister warned that if these claims are proven accurate, they would heavily cripple the financial stability and future growth of the company. Furthermore, he noted that the continued non payment of outstanding financial dues by the Telangana state government is already pushing the mining enterprise towards a highly vulnerable position.
The massive irregularity initially came to light through various media reports and has since triggered a major public outcry. Multiple political parties, active trade union organisations, and working employees of the company have constantly raised the issue, demanding total operational transparency. During an interaction with a news agency, Kishan Reddy clarified that the mounting pressure and valid concerns from these working groups necessitated a formal intervention to seek answers from the state leadership.
As the political heat intensifies in the state, the Central government is awaiting a prompt response from the Chief Minister regarding the decisive actions planned to unearth the truth behind the missing coal reserves. The development has set the stage for a major political showdown as opposition leaders and workers unite to demand justice and financial discipline within the corporation.
