Srinagar: Two soldiers were killed and three others injured in an encounter with militants in the remote Ahlan Gadole area of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, according to police reports. The encounter between security forces and terrorists is still ongoing as authorities work to neutralize the threat.
The clash began after police and security forces received intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the region. Acting on this information, a search operation was launched, leading to the violent confrontation.
According to a report by the news agency PTI, five soldiers were initially injured during the encounter. They were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, where two soldiers succumbed to their injuries and were martyred. The remaining three injured soldiers are currently undergoing treatment. In addition, two civilians were also injured in the crossfire and have been hospitalized.
In a related development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police released sketches of four militants who were last seen in the high-altitude Malhar, Bani, and Sojdhar forests of Kathua. The police have announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to the capture of each of these militants.
In response to the recent surge in militant activity along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu, the Border Security Force (BSF) has significantly increased troop deployments and installed additional CCTVs along the Punjab-Jammu interstate border. These measures aim to bolster security and prevent further incidents in the volatile region.
The encounter in Anantnag underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir as they continue their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. The situation remains tense, and further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
