Washington: In a bold move to end the Gaza conflict, US President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Hamas, granting the group just three to four days to accept a comprehensive peace deal or face dire repercussions.
Speaking from the White House, Trump unveiled a 20-point roadmap that aims to restore stability not only in Gaza but across the Middle East, highlighting that the responsibility now lies with Hamas.
Trump asserted that Israel, along with several Arab and Muslim nations, stands united behind the proposal. “Arab and Muslim countries and Israel are all ready for this agreement. Only Hamas’ approval is pending,” he said, warning that rejection could lead to severe outcomes. He stressed the urgency of releasing all hostages immediately and expressed a desire for humane treatment towards Hamas, calling the initiative “something exceptional that has never happened before.”
The plan has garnered widespread support, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsing it wholeheartedly. Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt have hailed it as a potential breakthrough for regional peace, provided conditions are met and safe releases are ensured.
Key stipulations include the complete disarmament of Hamas’ armed wing, destruction of tunnels and weapon facilities, and exclusion of the group from any future government role. Members willing to embrace peaceful lives and publicly apologise may receive amnesty. In return, Israeli forces would withdraw gradually from Gaza, borders would reopen for humanitarian aid and investments, and Hamas must free 20 living hostages plus the remains of two dozen others within 72 hours. An exchange for hundreds of detained Gazans is also outlined.
Should Hamas spurn the deal, Israel would retain full operational freedom with US backing. The blueprint focuses on clearing explosives, establishing a stable civilian administration, and fostering long-term regional harmony. Global eyes remain fixed on Hamas’ response as the clock ticks, hoping for an end to the protracted violence.
