Washington: In his second statement regarding India’s Operation Sindoor, U.S. President Donald Trump voiced concern over the escalating hostility between India and Pakistan, imploring both nations to end all military actions. The operation, targeting nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, prompted fierce Pakistani artillery fire along the Line of Control, resulting in thirteen deaths and fifty-seven injuries in Jammu and Kashmir.

Describing the situation as “absolutely dreadful”, Trump highlighted his close relationships with the leadership of both countries, strongly emphasising his hope that they peacefully resolve their disputes. “I am quite familiar with both individuals, and I get along well with both,” he remarked, referring to his bonds with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani officials. He noted the back-and-forth military engagements, expressing confidence that the violence could cease immediately.

Offer to intervene

Trump proposed mediation if needed, underscoring the robust ties the U.S. retains with both nations. “We maintain connections with both nations.” If there is any way I can assist, I am willing to help,” he stated, signifying Washington’s readiness to facilitate talks to prevent further escalation. The statement arrives amid heightened tensions in the aftermath of India’s twenty-four minute blitzkrieg, which destroyed key Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed infrastructure, such as a terrorist hub in Muridke linked to Osama Bin Laden and the 2008 Mumbai attacker Ajmal Kasab.

As the global community watches closely, Trump’s remarks reflect an appeal for restraint and diplomacy to avoid a broader conflict unfolding in the region.
