Trump Takes Office And Elon Musk Speaks Up For Fair Trade Practises

NewDelhi: The 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, has taken the oath of office on his historic return to the presidency after losing the election in 2020. Trump was on ceremony to be inaugurated as the 50th leader of the country, with J.D. Vance, his running partner, sworn in at the Capitol building.

Trump, for his part, said in his inaugural address that the United States needs cooperation with China. He referred to a report in the Global Times saying both countries would be better served by collaboration than conflict. But a more stable relationship with China is what he said the US was looking for.

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng was at the inauguration as a special presidential representative of President Xi Jinping. Before the ceremony, however, Han met with Vance and transmitted Xi’s best wishes to Trump. During talks, Han said China was willing to work with the U.S. to continue what was agreed in agreements between Xi and Trump to safeguard the healthy and steady development of bilateral relations.

There remain tensions between Beijing and Washington, but they also share broad areas of common interests and potential areas of cooperation in areas of economic and trade relations, Han said. A meeting was also held with major American business leaders, such as Elon Musk, to discuss mutual interests and trade policy concerns.

Tesla, where Musk runs his company Tesla, which operates a factory in Shanghai, has spoken out in opposition to TikTok restrictions in the U.S., saying such measures restrict freedom of expression. He added this situation isn’t balanced in that TikTok runs in America, but platforms like X (formerly Twitter) are banned in China, and he called for change.

Trump is set to remake U.S. policy on the domestic and international fronts as he attempts to firm up his base at home while appealing to the electorate abroad and plans to put American security and economic rebirth first.
