New Delhi: With all eyes on possible cease-fires, the continuous confrontation between Russia and Ukraine attracts world interest. In the most recent update, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke on a phone chat with former U.S. President Donald Trump, their first discussion since a divisive meeting in the White House last month. About one hour long, the call focused on the encounters Trump had with Russian President Vladimir Putin to better understand Russia’s priorities and demands.
On his Truth Social social media page, Trump commented regarding the call, stating that it was successful and that he will later provide further details in a statement. Mike Waltz, the U.S. National Security Advisor, announced that American and Russian technical teams would meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to negotiate implementing and maybe widening a truce. It is unknown, though, whether Ukrainian authorities will be part in these talks.
Trump and Putin had a about an hour and a half-long call another time. Trump proposed a month-long ceasefire, but Putin rejected the idea. Russia promised, nevertheless, not to bomb Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Both presidents agreed to strive for peace and advocate for the end of the war. Putin, however, cautioned that the crisis would not end if Ukraine’s allies maintained providing intelligence support.
