London: Metropolitan Police divers have located the body of Gurashman Singh Bhatia, a 23-year-old Indian student, in a lake in Canary Wharf’s South Quay area. The solemn discovery comes after days of intensive searches and an appeal for information regarding Bhatia’s last movements.
Bhatia, who was pursuing an MSc in Digital Finance at Loughborough University, was reported missing following a night out with friends on December 14th. The Metropolitan Police immediately initiated extensive investigations, combing through CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and scrutinising phone and financial records.
Detective Chief Superintendent (DCI) James Conway expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that while there was no indication of suspicious circumstances, a thorough investigation would be conducted to uncover the truth. Conway urged anyone who might have seen Bhatia in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of December 14th or in the early hours of December 15th to come forward.
The tragic news has also garnered attention in India, with BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa reaching out to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to express condolences and seek assistance for Bhatia’s family.
