Tragic Death Of A Young Star (Sushant) Is Being Used To Defame Film Industry: Producers Guild Of India

Mumbai: Bollywood has never faced so much scrutiny as in the last couple of months following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

From the insider vs outsider debate to nepotism, favouritism and even bullying, social media has out everything about the Hindi film industry under the scanner.

India Today has reported that The Producers Guild Of India isn’t happy about the same. The film industry may have its imperfections, but it is a source of “soft power” for the country on an international stage. In a statement on Friday (September 4), the Producers Guild spoke about the “tragic death of a promising young star” and how it is now being used as a “tool to defame and slander the film industry and its members”, the report added.

The statement further said: A picture has been painted of the industry as a terrible place for outsiders to aspire to; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and derision, a murky den of substance abuse and criminality. But it is not the truth.

Like any other sector, there is no doubt that the film industry has its imperfections, and there must always be an ongoing attempt by any industry to improve upon itself, learn and evolve, while weeding out unsavoury elements or improper practices that hold it back. But to an entire industry with the same brush is a gross misrepresentation of reality, it added.
