Lahore: An explosion on a school bus in Balochistan, Pakistan, on Wednesday, May 21, killed four children and injured 38. During the morning, a suicide bomber drove an explosive-packed vehicle into the bus in Khuzdar district, according to police officials. Many people are upset by what happened, and officials have promised to find and punish those who attacked innocent children. Investigators believe that groups hoping for secession are involved in the violence.
While the students were on a bus to school, near Zero Point in Khuzdar, the blast happened. Mr Yasir Iqbal Dashti said the explosion at Khuzdar was so powerful that four children died instantly. Numerous badly injured persons were sent to the nearest hospital for treatment. The area was in chaos, with responders working hard to help the wounded. Dashti compared the bombing to a suicide attack, common in Balochistan.
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, sharply denounced the attack, saying it was an act of brutality against innocent children. “People who harm innocent children are not fit to be treated with mercy, as Naqvi said in the local press,” Senator Khalilzad stressed. What he said demonstrated that the government intends to stop those who caused the chaos. After the attack, there are renewed worries about Balochistan’s safety because both army and non-military targets there are repeatedly targeted by insurgents.
Police and Frontier Corps members arrived at the blast site to gather evidence and find out how the attack happened. Baloch separatist groups, known for their violent activities in the area, are thought to be involved, although no one has officially said so. According to the first reports, a suicide car bomb was used, and detectives are working through the wreckage. The investigation tries to name the people responsible and avoid more crimes there.
For a long time, Balochistan has seen insurgent actions. Organisations such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have launched attacks on government forces and structures. BLA, which was declared a terrorist organisation by the United States in 2019, regularly commits deadly attacks. The Pakistani military said that just weeks earlier, on May 6, 2025, at least seven soldiers were killed by a BLA-claimed blast in Balochistan. The recent attack once more shows that violence from separatists is ongoing and keeps jeopardising the safety of residents in the area.
The recent blasts in Khuzdar remind us how difficult it is for Pakistan to control Balochistan. Critics have widely criticised the focus on children, prompting a growing call for more robust efforts to combat terrorism. With more young lives lost, people are urging the government to figure out what drives these attacks and better protect those at greatest risk. Right now, we are focusing on helping the victims and seeing justice done for what troubled the nation.
