New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a strong call for national unity during a Dussehra celebration in Delhi’s IP Extension on Tuesday, stating that those who attempt to divide society are “enemies of the nation.”
Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi emphasised that the ultimate goal of governance must be public welfare and urged all political parties to unite in the national interest. “The enemies of ‘Maa Bharati’ (Mother India) must be identified,” he declared. “Those who divide society are the enemies of the country.”
The Prime Minister extended his warm wishes for Vijayadashami, noting that the spirit of Lord Ram resonates in every corner of India today. He remarked that the traditional staging of ‘Ramlilas’ and the unwavering belief in the victory of eternal truth over falsehood are not merely festivals, but the “vibrant strength of India.”
Highlighting the unparalleled ideals set by Lord Ram, PM Modi stated, “This nation, its culture, and its ancestors have revered and worshipped Lord Shri Ram for thousands of years. This faith stems not only from the fact that Lord Ram ended the demon king Ravana, but also because Lord Ram has given us ideals that have no equal in human history.”
A significant portion of his address focused on India’s efforts to reclaim and preserve its cultural heritage. “Any nation progresses when it has a sense of self-respect, and its heritage plays a crucial role in building this self-respect,” he explained.
The Prime Minister pointed out that India’s heritage was looted for centuries, but the country is now actively working to bring its treasures back. “In the last 12 years, more than 650 ancient statues have been brought back to India. India is giving a new identity to its cultural centres on the world stage,” he announced.
Concluding his speech with a reflection on ‘Ram Rajya’ (the ideal governance model of Lord Ram), PM Modi described it as a system devoid of discrimination, where justice and equal opportunities are guaranteed for everyone. He urged the nation to move forward by adopting the principles of ‘Janta Janardan’ (the public is God) and ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava’ (citizens are divine).
Following his address, Prime Minister Modi ceremoniously shot an arrow to initiate the burning of the Ravana effigy, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
