Vadodara: A powerful explosion comes into the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) refinery at Vadodara’s Koyali area when a major fire broke out. The smoke plumes could be seen from several kilometres away as the blaze sent them into the sky. Currently, police and fire brigade teams are fighting the flames and evacuating the refinery workers. But so far there’s no word on how many workers are still trapped inside.
The fire began, according to preliminary reports, after an explosion in a 1,000 kilolitre benzene tank at the refinery. Local IOCL officials have declined to specify the cause of the fire but said an investigation is under way. After a call was made about the incident, the Vadodara Collector, Superintendent of Police and other officials rushed to the spot. The fire safety team, accompanied by Vadodara’s fire brigade, started working to bring the fire under control and rescuing employees immediately.
The refinery, in the Koyali part of Vadodara, is a public sector undertaking of the Government of India. The explosion took place around 4 pm, confirmed the district collector of Vadodara, Bijal Shah, adding that rescue operations are on to put out the fire and make sure all employees are safe. The crisis in the blaze situation to be contained by rescue teams goes from bad to worse under tough conditions.
Rescue operations are going on at IOCL’s Vadodara refinery after the explosion and subsequent fire. Authorities are working to put out the flames and ensure all employees are evacuated safely. Authorities are investigating why the blast occurred in hopes of preventing future disasters.
