Patna: Expect tensions within alliances to remain high as political leaders continue to make new statements ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Even before any talks regarding the allocation of seats, claims have started emerging. On Sunday, March 23, 2025, Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha leader Jitan Ram Manjhi made a remark in Sherghati, Gaya, further inflaming NDA tension.
In a “Garib Chetna Sammelan” (poor awareness conference) at Ranglal High School Ground in Sherghati, Manjhi claimed that his party should be given 40 seats in the coming elections in the state. He also bagged the Sherghati seat for his party. Manjhi boldly declared that if his party secured at least 20 out of the 40 seats, the state would view it negatively, and the next Chief Minister of Bihar would become a symbol of shame in 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was watching them, he added.
Aside from this, Manjhi also made some promises to the people of Sherghati during the event. He promised to relaunch the projects he had implemented when he was chief minister in the past and even proposed that Sherghati should be a separate district.
As far as seat distribution for the 2025 elections is concerned, no formal talks or meetings among the NDA partners associating with them have taken place so far; it is noteworthy. Manjhi’s demands could potentially inflame tensions within the alliance. Political experts believe Manjhi’s statement aims to exert pressure on the NDA prior to these parties initiating seat-sharing negotiations. We will have to see if his demand forces the NDA to reconsider.
