New Delhi: With recent hikes in recharge plans by private telecom giants Airtel and Jio, a significant number of users have begun switching to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). This trend has gained substantial traction on social media platforms, where many users express their dissatisfaction with the increased costs and promote BSNL as a more affordable alternative.
In a notable development, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a ₹15,000 crore deal with BSNL to roll out 4G internet services across 1,000 villages in India. This collaboration aims to provide fast internet speeds to rural areas, potentially shifting the competitive landscape currently dominated by Jio and Airtel in the 4G segment.
Tata is also constructing data centers in four regions across India to bolster the country’s 4G infrastructure. BSNL has already installed over 9,000 4G networks nationwide, with an ambitious target of reaching 100,000 installations.
The price hikes by Jio, Airtel, and Vi (Vodafone Idea) have prompted this consumer shift. Jio increased its prices by 12-25% as of July 3, Airtel by 11-21%, and Vi by 10-21% starting July 4. The price hikes have led to widespread dissatisfaction, particularly against Jio, and have fueled the migration to BSNL.
As BSNL strengthens its infrastructure and expands its reach with the help of TCS, it poses a growing challenge to the dominance of Jio and Airtel. The telecom sector is keenly watching this development, as it could significantly alter the competitive dynamics and offer consumers more choices in the near future.
