From October 1, any notice by the Income Tax department for tax claims will have to be issued with a Document Identification Number (DIN), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters after a meeting with tax officials.
“Unless there is a DIN, the assesse is well within his rights to consider the notice as not issued,” the minister added.
Sitharaman further informed that the revenue department will bring in faceless assessment for Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from October 8 to usher transparency in the tax collection process. “The department is taking lot of measures to bring in faceless technology,” she said.
