Tata Surprises With Harrier Prices Starting At Rs 12.7 Lakh!

Mumbai: Tata Motors dropped a bomb with a killer base price of Rs 12.7 lakh for its Harrier. While industry experts were speculating a starting price of Rs 16 lakh, Tata has potentially shaken the market with the top variant priced at Rs 16.25 lakh ex-showroom.

Tata Harrier was the SUV that turned many heads during Auto Expo 2018, and the final production vehicle also retains the same eye-catching design with dual function LED DRLs with turn indicators, projector lamps and 3D tail lamps. With this surprise price tag, Tata Harrier will compete with SUVs starting from the Nissan Kicks to Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV5OO and the Jeep Compass with which it shares a few components.

The Harrier is one of the biggest SUVs in class. At 4598mm, the five-seater Harrier is longer than the seven-seater Mahindra XUV5OO. A seven-seater Harrier is in the works, according to reports.

The Harrier is based on a new platform called Omega Arc, which has been developed by both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover. The monocoque is based on Land Rover’s D8 architecture and the company claims that it reduces vibrations and improves stability and control.

In the interiors, for the first time, Tata time has plushed its cabin with an Oakwood themed dashboard, seat upholstery and door pad inserts. There are satin chrome accents on the door handles, steering, AC vents, which lend a luxurious feel.

Everything is big about the Tata Harrier, so is the 8.8-inch HD touch screen infotainment system and a seven-inch coloured TFT instrument panel display. The SUV gets loads of gizmos and electronics such as a nine-speaker JBL audio system, steering mounted controls, FATC control, auto headlamps, push-button start, cruise control, theatre dimming, power windows, fast charging slots, rear parking camera, rain sensing wipers and an eight-way adjustable driver seat. There is, however, no sunroof for the time being.

Powering the Harrier is a Fiat 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 140 PS @ 3750 RPM and 350 Nm @ 1750-2500 RPM. It has a six-speed manual transmission and also has multiple drive modes (Eco, City and Sport) and terrain response modes for normal, rough and wet driving conditions. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency is 16.7 kmpl, which is higher than that of XUV5OO but lower than Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. There is no automatic or petrol version now.

Safety-wise too, Tata has gone all in with six-airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), electronic traction control, hydraulic brake assist, corner stability control, hill descent control, rollover mitigation, rear parking sensor and camera, perimetric alarm system, central locking, and ISOFIX anchor points.
