Tata Motors has announced that its next and first long-range electric vehicle will be the Nexon EV, and it is going to be launched in early 2020.
The SUV will be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, according to an official press release from Tata.
The range is expected to be about 300 km per charge. Currently, the Tata Tigor has a range of just 110-140 km which brings up range anxiety issues. The Nexon EV will come with a high voltage lithium battery electric system that will have fast charging support. Adhering to international standards, there will be a warranty of 8 years on the battery and motor.
The battery and motor are also IP67 (dust and waterproof) rated. Powering the Nexon EV will be a permanent magnet AC motor.
Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar are the brand ambassadors and they will be driving the Nexon EV across the country, including Manali to Leh.
The Nexon currently comes with the choice of 1.5 petrol and diesel engines, priced between Rs 6.69 lakh and Rs 11.16 lakh. The urban SUV has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
Currently, the only long-range electric vehicle sold in India is the Hyundai Kona which has a range of 452 km. It is priced at Rs 23 lakh and is available in ten cities only.
