Jaipur: In a thrilling display of power hitting and sweet revenge, young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) record books.
During the 36th match of IPL 2026 between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Sooryavanshi achieved the unprecedented feat of smashing four consecutive sixes in the very first over of the innings.
The high-octane drama unfolded when 24-year-old fast bowler Praful Hinge took the ball for the opening over. This matchup had a compelling backstory: earlier in the season, during match 21, Hinge had dismissed Sooryavanshi for a golden duck on his debut, eventually picking up four wickets.
However, Friday’s encounter told a drastically different story. Yashasvi Jaiswal took a single off the first ball, putting Sooryavanshi on strike. After playing a dot on the second delivery, the young batter unleashed absolute carnage. He powerfully lofted the next four deliveries directly into the stands, plundering 24 runs off Hinge in just five balls. This blistering assault not only left the bowler looking demoralised but also provided the Rajasthan Royals with a rocket-fueled start.
With this explosive display, Sooryavanshi broke an IPL record that had stood for years. He became the first player in the history of the tournament to hit four sixes in the opening over of an innings. The previous best was held by Naman Ojha, who had hit three sixes in the first over against the Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2009.
