NewDelhi: A fatal incident is an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190AR plane crash that happened in Kazakhstan on December 25, 2024, where a minimum of 42 people died. The aircraft was moving from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, and it was supposed to land near Aktau, but it seems to have strayed miles off its intended flight path.
Reportedly, the plane was carrying 67 individuals when it encountered a bird strike that caused an oxygen tank to explode. Eyewitness narratives and video clips posted on social networks show the aircraft battling to stay in the sky before it finally crashed and broke into two parts on hitting the ground. The blast led to the engine room going up in flames, which in turn caused injuries to several passengers.
Despite the chaotic environment, 32 survivors were able to escape through the wreckage, as the rear side of the aircraft pretended to be untouched and did not catch fire. Videos that spread online showed people who got on the plane’s back walking clumsily amidst smoke and debris.
The aeroplane had 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian nationals, six Kazakhstani individuals, and three Kyrgyz citizens on board. Azerbaijan Airlines issued a list of passengers and provided a hotline for anxious families in response to the unfortunate incident.
The Azerbaijani administration is carrying out an inquiry about the accident. A representative group that included officials from the emergency department and the deputy prosecutor general of the country was sent to the crash site for the purpose of collecting data.
The President of Azerbaijan, Aliyev, made a statement of holdings as he pronounced the loss of families of the deceased there and then.
