Patna: The state of Bihar is witnessing a massive protest over the 70th Combined Preliminary Examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). In a protest, a group of students marched through the streets of Patna, giving the demands of canceling the preliminary exam, as there are allegations of a leak of the question papers.
The exam was held on December 13, 2024, at 911 examination centres throughout the state. However, the BPSC notified that the particular centre’s exam has been cancelled as a video clip showing the tearing of OMR sheets at the Bapu Examination Centre is in circulation. The scheduled date for the re-exam is January 4, 2025. Now, the candidates are requesting the commission to annul all exam centres and take a re-examination process thoroughly.
The BPSC has clarified through a notification on its web page that, besides the Bapu Centre, all other centres will continue to keep their exam results and no further rescheduling will take place. Examination Controller Rajesh Kumar Singh said that the decision for cancelling or re-examining tests is based on reports given by the respective district magistrates and other related proofs. As of now, he highlighted that no district magistrate has reportedly advised to cancel commonly across the board.
Furthermore, he went on to say, “There hasn’t been any evidence of such actions that would require a re-examination of the 70th Combined Preliminary Examination.” The stance of the commission clearly indicates its dependence on written documentation and local government feedback for making such crucial decisions.
This has led to candidates starting the echo of claims regarding thus, being frustrated about their perceived lack of transparency and fairness in the handling of the examination. Many students, on the contrary, are now withdrawn, due to the demands for equity and accountability in the exam procedures having achieved more affluent.
