New Delhi: In a significant development for global maritime security, Iran and Oman are collaborating to draft a protocol aimed at monitoring vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
The announcement, made by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, highlights the need for coordinated oversight to ensure safe passage for ships navigating the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, which sees nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply pass through its narrow waters, has long been a hotspot for geopolitical tensions. Gharibabadi emphasised that even in peaceful times, monitoring transit is essential to maintain order and prevent disruptions.
