Sonia Gandhi, JP Nadda Elected Unopposed To Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and BJP National President JP Nadda were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan and neighbouring Gujarat, respectively, on Tuesday.

The former Congress chief will be making her Rajya Sabha debut after representing Rae Bareily Lok Sabha seat since 2004. She was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1999. She will fill the seat which will fall vacant in April after former prime minister Manmohan Singh completes his Rajya Sabha tenure.

Besides Sonia, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathore have also been elected unopposed to the Upper House from Rajasthan.

Making the announcement, Rajasthan Assembly Secretary Mahaveer Prasad Sharma said these three leaders were elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed since no other candidates had filed nominations.
