New Delhi: A public interest litigation filed in the Delhi High Court has sparked urgent discussions about the rapidly deteriorating health of education reformist Sonam Wangchuk. The prominent activist has been observing an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in the national capital for the past eighteen days. The petition seeks immediate legal intervention to force feed the activist and shift him to a medical facility. The petitioner claims that Wangchuk has lost significant body weight and could face fatal consequences within the next two days if his fast continues.

The ongoing protest led by Wangchuk was initiated to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the massive NEET medical entrance examination paper leak scandal. Activist and lawyer Rakesh Kumar Saini officially filed the legal plea, requesting the court to direct both the Central Government and the Delhi Government to take immediate medical action. The legal document highlights that Wangchuk has already lost 8.5 kilograms of weight since the protest began. Organizers revealed that his medical parameters are dangerously low, with his blood pressure dropping to 107/70 mmHg and his blood sugar level plunging to 67 mg/dL.

The physical toll of the prolonged fast is increasingly visible to everyone present at the venue. Medical professionals are constantly monitoring him as he lies on a white mattress at the protest site. Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of CJP, stated that Wangchuk experiences severe dizziness when trying to sit or stand and is enduring immense physical pain. Appealing directly to the central administration, Dipke urged the government to take the demands of the protesters seriously because precious human lives are at risk.

As the health condition of the activist remains extremely critical, all political and public attention is now firmly fixed on the upcoming decision of the High Court. Meanwhile, the supporting protesters have announced a massive foot march towards the Parliament building on July 20 to intensify their ongoing agitation. The unfolding situation presents a significant challenge for the administration as they balance public order with the sensitive medical condition of a prominent national figure.
