Soldier Arrested For Murdering The Girlfriend And Hiding Her Body Under Cement In Nagpur

Nagpur: In a horrifying event that could have been taken straight from a Bollywood movie, a 33 year old man from the army has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend whose body was found buried under cement in Nagpur. An accused identified as Ajay Wankhede poisoned and murdered his girlfriend Jyotsna Akre (32) and buried her body in a toll plaza area.

Going by the police records, Wankhede from Kailash Nagar, Nagpur is presently, posted in Nagaland. He himself had met Akre, who was working at an automobile shop, on Shadi.com, a site meant for matrimonial purposes. Jyotsna divorced once and so did Ajay but he was twice married as well according to the customs in India. They soon became lovers but had some conflict problems when Ajay’s family condemns the relationship, and they arrange him to marry another woman.

Relationship Turns Sour

After feeling betrayed by Ajay and rejection after he decided to stay away from her after getting engaged to another woman, she began searching for him. Realizing this is true she decides to call one of Ajay’s friends who tells her the details of his current location. This set the background for the fatal incidences that occurred in the story.

Cited by the DCP Rashmita Rao, make believe to want to get rid of her, Ajay may have planned the murder to get rid of Jyotsna. In 28 August, Ajay used his mother mobile phone to call Jyotsna and on pretext of meeting him on Wardha Road planned to meet her. She drove out of town saying that she was visiting a friend, and that she would be back home the following day morning.

The two went to a hotel before proceeding to a toll plaza along Wardha Road then, Ajay gave Jyotsna a spiked-drink. He then chocked her to death when she was unconscious and took her dead body to the jungle. There, he buried a pit, put her body in it and covered it with cement with an aim of hiding the act.

Investigation Unfolds

When Jyotsna did not return home her family reported her missing to Beltarodi police station on 29 August. They had officially kidnapped her by reporting her case as kidnapping on 17th September. Later they contacted Ajay through call details and invited him for interrogation. But, when the net seemed to be closing in on him, he escaped to Pune to take treatment for high blood pressure with the Armed Forces Medical College afoul.

However, police took him into custody and during the police interrogation, he agreed to accept charge for the crime. He took the authorities to the burial place located around Dongargaon toll plaza on Wardha Road, and the remains were dug up by forensic teams on 21 October.

Police officials pointed out that the case has resemblance to the Hollywood movie, Drishyam, where a murder is carried out and covered up. Ajay tried to wash of his sin in the same way as happened in the movie; the crime take a cinematic mode that is rather disturbing.

Government Response

High ranking officers such as DCP Rashmita Rao have also been ever actively involved in the process. The police appreciated the efficiency of the further cooperation and actions of the specialists in the identical recovery of the victim’s remains and the collection of evidence. The incident has caused quite stir in Nagpur and locals have started talking about domestic violence and tragic outcomes of personal vendetta.
