Washington: On behalf of all parties, Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, at the Indian Consulate in New York, commended India’s careful reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Because of the attacks that killed 26, nearly all tourists, India responded by launching Operation Sindoor on May 7. This was aimed at terrorist sites in areas Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) occupy.

As an opposition leader, Tharoor explained that he did not belong to the government. Still, his party favors a tough approach to terrorism. After the attack, he called for India to retaliate by publishing an op-ed in a leading Indian newspaper. “India should have struck but targeted, and I’m pleased that’s exactly what occurred,” according to Tharoor. He praised the nine locations attacked, including bases linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur.

He said that as a result of the attack in Pahalgam, where the assailants showed bias against specific communities, Indians from different areas united. He said, “The aim was to generate anger, but the response was to come together from many walks and faiths.” According to Biden, India’s message was clear: Pakistan must not expect to evade consequences for attacking Indian citizens.

The visit, which started at the National September 11 Memorial, was intended to clearly show India’s no-tolerance approach to terrorism to partners worldwide. Tharoor urged other nations to unite against terrorism, saying it affects everyone worldwide. “The 9/11 Memorial reminded us that we all share the burden of fighting terrorism,” he said.

An all-party group with MPs from the BJP, JMM, and TDP, among others, is participating in India’s foreign outreach after Operation Sindoor. Tharoor said the strikes were an act of force to correct an injustice, not to begin a protracted conflict. He said that India’s action clearly showed that we reach for peace even as we resist terror.

Tharoor criticized Pakistan for denying it played a role and China for blocking UN Security Council references to the group attached to the attack, the Resistance Front. “It is not acceptable for Pakistan to deny involvement and for China to shield its proxies,” he said.

The group will meet with leaders in Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia to encourage them to support India’s battle against terror.
