Bhubaneswar: A seminar entitled ‘Women as Writers and Readers in the Wake of Basanti: Writing The New Women’ was organised at Rama Devi Women’s University here on Tuesday.
The Department of English in association with Oxford University Press organised the seminar.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr Padmaja Mishra was the chief guest.
PG Council Chairperson Dr Sarita Supakar, translator of Basanti, Dr Himanshu Sekhar Mohapatra, Oxford University Press Editor-Translator Mini Krishnan and eminent theatre personality Ananta Mohapatra were present on the occasion.
The seminar was inaugurated by paying a floral tribute to Maa Rama Devi.
Mini Krishnan addreessed the gathering on Basanti, in the light of post-independent Indian women’s search for identity.
Dr Himanshu Sekhar Mohapatra spoke on the inspirational journey of Basanti as a novel, a collaborative effort of nine writers from Odisha.
Senior faculty of English Department, Alakananda Mishra gave the vote of thanks.
The event was anchored by Assistant Professor Manisha Mishra.
