New Delhi: Chandigarh Police has arrested Vinod Sehwag, the younger brother of former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, in a cheque bounce case worth INR 7 crore. The police officials from the Manimajra police station arrested him after the court declared him an absconder for not appearing in court proceedings.
Vinod Sehwag was required to appear before the court for hearings in a financial case. But his continuous absence compelled the judiciary to declare him a fugitive. The court ordered the police to arrest him, present him before the court, and then send him to judicial custody. His legal team has thereafter moved a bail petition, which is likely to be heard soon.
Vinod Sehwag is the younger brother of Virender Sehwag, a famous Indian opening batsman. Virender Sehwag has two elder sisters and a younger brother Vinod, who is currently in legal trouble.
Virender Sehwag, known for his aggressive batting style, commanded respect in international cricket. The opposing team’s bowlers would be intimidated by his aggressive nature on the field. Sehwag made his debut for India in 1999 against Pakistan and had a rich 14-year-long career, playing for the nation in all formats of the game.
In his global career, he scored more than 17,000 runs, playing 104 Test matches, 251 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 19 T20 Internationals. In Tests, he scored 8,586 runs, while in ODIs, he had 8,273 runs to his name. His performances in the T20 format totalled 394 runs.
