Jammu: In a concerted effort to curb the rising number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have intensified operations across the Jammu division. The crackdown targets both active terrorists and their overground workers (OGWs), who have been instrumental in facilitating recent attacks.
The OGW network has emerged as a critical support system for terrorists, aiding in logistics, reconnaissance, and providing safe havens. One notable incident highlighting the role of OGWs was the terrorist attack on a bus in Reasi, orchestrated with the help of overground worker Hukumdin. In response, security forces have launched a series of operations across various districts, including Doda, where police recently apprehended Mubashir Hussain, Safder Ali, Sajad Ahmed, and Showket Ali for their alleged involvement in aiding terrorists.
In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police detained two OGWs linked to the attack on two army vehicles in Kathua. The role of these overground workers extends to crucial tasks such as providing shelter and logistical support to terrorists, conducting reconnaissance, and aiding in their escape post-attack. The crackdown on this network is seen as vital in disrupting the operational capabilities of terrorist groups.
Sources indicate that the terrorists operating in the Jammu division hail primarily from the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions of Pakistan. These militants are reportedly well-trained in mountainous, forested, and riverine warfare, possessing military training, advanced weaponry, and guerrilla warfare tactics. Intelligence agencies have gathered substantial information on these individuals, who are believed to number between 40 to 50 and are active in areas such as Rajouri-Poonch, Kathua, Doda, and Reasi.
The ongoing security operations aim to dismantle both the terrorist networks and their support systems within the region. The army and police are conducting large-scale operations to neutralize the threat posed by these groups and their supporters. The intensified efforts underscore the commitment of the security forces to restore peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir amidst a challenging security landscape.
