New Delhi: Currently, computer crimes are on the rise in India, and individuals behind fraud schemes never cease to diversify the ways that they apply in order to swindle innocent citizens. To this, the government has heightened the fight against such scams and the authority of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given new guidelines to the telecom operators to protect users’ information as well as to stop scams.
Currently, the TRAI has called upon major telecom operators of India such as Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, Airtel, and BSNL to enhance security standards to safeguard their customer’s information rendering it quite seamless for the average consumer to dodge such cons.
Scammers’ Protection Improvement
They have affected informants and consumers of the main telecommunication services providers seeking to minimise their vulnerability to scams. Some of the new rules related to security of the SIM cards are scheduled to be implemented and launched from 1st of November. Now, let’s get into the basics of these prospective alterations.
Government Scheme to Tackle Fake Call and Message Alert
In order to address the problem of the fake calls and messages, the government has amended the existing laws. Telecom operators have been instructed to enhance their mechanisms in order to deal with fake calls, said TRAI. All these scams have been withdrawing money from one’s account through misleading telephone calls and messages.
What Are the New Rules?
As per these new regulations telecom operators are to philtre incoming calls and messages and look for ‘fraud signals’. Many of the words and phrases that are commonly used by scammers will be specified and all the incoming calls and messages that include these words and phrases will be blocked automatically. Also, any number that subscribers using SIM cards report as engaging in such fraudulent calls or sending such messages will be barred immediately. This proactive model still in its development phase will presumably be complete soon and set its goal in reducing fraud instances.
A Boost in Telecom Security
All these measures are believed to reduce the incidence of fraudsters and provide customers with some assurance. As more people find themselves victim of digital scams, the government’s action is a powerful signal towards a better protected digital exchange for all.
