New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India has introduced a major convenience for daily commuters living near highway toll gates. Residents residing within a 20 kilometer radius of a toll plaza can now generate their digital local passes directly from their smartphones using the RajmargYatra mobile application. This new feature allows eligible locals to enjoy unlimited monthly travel without the hassle of visiting the toll authorities.

Previously, obtaining a local pass was a tedious procedure. Commuters had to physically visit the toll plaza and submit hard copies of their identity and address proofs. The manual verification process was time consuming and often required multiple trips. With the introduction of the new digital system, the entire procedure has moved online and takes just a few minutes to complete from the comfort of home.

The digital local pass facility has been launched on a pilot basis at the Mundka Bakkarwala toll plaza on the Urban Extension Road 2 in Delhi. The highway authority plans to expand this feature across all toll plazas in the country over the coming months. To ensure a seamless experience, the RajmargYatra application has been integrated with government platforms like DigiLocker and VAHAN. Once the vehicle owner grants consent, the system automatically verifies the address, vehicle registration number, and FASTag details, completely eliminating the need for manual document uploads.

This technological upgrade brings immense transparency and speed to the application process. The app utilizes Geographic Information System technology to accurately map and verify if the applicant genuinely resides within the designated 20 kilometer limit.

In addition to the pass facility, the authority has also launched a dedicated help center named Marg Mitra within the same application. This feature will assist highway users with FASTag recharges, KYC updates, refund tracking, and grievance redressal, putting all toll related solutions at their fingertips.

The digitalization of local passes marks a significant step towards modernizing highway transit in India. By eliminating paperwork and physical visits, the highway authority is ensuring a smoother, more efficient, and hassle free commuting experience for local residents.
