Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Police Apprehend Primary Suspect On Mumbai-New Delhi Train

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by a suspect named Akash Kanaujia who has been arrested recently. Working on a tip-off by the Mumbai police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested the suspect while he was travelling on the Shalimar-Jnaneshwari Express train from Mumbai to Kolkata.

This arrest is a culmination of an incident that took place on January 15-16 night when Saif Ali Khan was allegedly assaulted at his home in Juhu.

According to reports, Kanaujia was travelling in general compartment of the train without a ticket. Local police, acting on a tip-off about his movements, took him into custody shortly after the train stopped briefly at Durg station. Kanaujia, who claimed to be on his way to Bilaspur, was allegedly going to the residence of his relative in Janjgir Champa.

Significantly, police seized a cell phone registered in his name at the time of the attack, which, was the same as the one given by Mumbai police, and a bag seen on CCTV footage of the attack. Chhattisgarh police said they were informed by Mumbai police about the suspect travelling to the state.

The RPF used surveillence techniques to tract Kanaujia down. He was identified through a photo that had been disseminated to law enforcement prior to his arrest, reports said. The operation was carried out out of full uniform to avoid spooking him, and he was apprehended five minutes after the train stopped.

Although police are still investigating and have not confirmed whether Kanaujia is the same individual who assaulted Saif Ali Khan, who was seriously injured and suffered a knife wound to his spine. The attacker himself was said to have been clean-shaven, leading to further questions of whether Kanaujia could possibly be the same man, as he had Moustache.

Authorities are yet to confirm both the identity of Kanaujia and its link to the strike. His mobile number was registered to one Rajendra Kodepe, of Durg district, whereas he alleged to be living in Colaba, Mumbai.

Saif Ali Khan has been sent home from the hospital but is still there as he had to undergo a surgery to remove the knife piece and is now allegedly out of danger. Also has came forward with statement is Saif’s wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and his nanny also got injured in incident.

Police are analysing CCTV and have interviewed a number of people over the matter as investigations go on. As both Mumbai and Chhattisgarh police are jointly working on reaching as clear a picture as possible of this shocking attack, the entire situation continues to remain tense.
