Mumbai: In a recent meeting in Nagpur, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision to include Ajit Pawar in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The gathering, which took place at the RSS headquarters, involved key RSS Vidarbha province office-bearers and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The primary focus of the meeting was on coordinating efforts between the NDA and the RSS in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections.
During the meeting, RSS officials voiced their displeasure over the inclusion of Ajit Pawar in the NDA, citing concerns about the alliance’s potential impact. In response, Fadnavis sought to reassure the RSS leaders by explaining the rationale behind the decision. He emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could not secure power independently and therefore had to form alliances with both Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Fadnavis also highlighted the political circumstances that necessitated these partnerships, despite the mixed results seen in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
However, the inclusion of Ajit Pawar did not yield the expected benefits for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. According to statistics, Ajit Pawar’s vote positivity was only 50%, which contributed to the BJP’s underwhelming performance in Maharashtra. The decision to continue the alliance with Ajit Pawar for the upcoming assembly elections has further fueled discontent within the Sangh.
The RSS’s criticism of the BJP’s strategy has been apparent, with several publications within the Sangh Parivar expressing disapproval of the decision to bring Ajit Pawar into the fold. This internal discord is being linked to the BJP’s recent electoral setbacks in Maharashtra, raising concerns about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Despite the rising tensions, neither the RSS nor the BJP has publicly addressed the growing rift. When questioned about the issue, Ajit Pawar dismissed the controversy, suggesting that the matter had been exaggerated. Nevertheless, the RSS’s dissatisfaction signals potential challenges for the BJP as it gears up for the state elections, with the alliance’s stability now under scrutiny.
