Bengaluru: Among the most popular of relaxations allowed by the Central government in Lockdown 3.0 was the permission to reopen liquor shops in the non-containment zones of different states.
On Day 1 of the third phase of nationwide lockdown, people who had run out of stock during the last 40 days, rushed out to queue up at alcohol shops in different states.
Karnataka, where tipplers celebrated by bursting firecrackers at some places, recorded liquor sale worth Rs 45 crore on Monday.
According to Karnataka’s Excise Department, 3.9 lakh litres of beer and 8.5 lakh litres of Indian liquor was picked up from stores on the very first day of reopening of liquor shops.
As per Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, standalone shops in green, orange and red (non-containment) zones can be open operate till 7 pm during the Covid-19 lockdown.
