Rourkela’s Rising Star Makes His Bollywood Debut With ‘Chhichhore’

Never in his wildest dream did he once think that his love for cricket would help him live his passion for acting. Amrit Kashyap from Odisha, is making a debut in Bollywood with Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming movie, ‘Chhichhore’ starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma.

It was his cricket background that got him this role. “They asked me for my cricket videos during the audition. Later, I got to know that I had been selected for the role,” said Amrit, who is also a national-level athlete.

The 27-year-old had to lose around 12 kg to fit into the character of a 19-year-old.

Talking about his co-actors, Amrit said that he did not get to interact much with Sushant Singh Rajput. “I had one scene with him, where we are rivals on the cricket field. He was very cooperative. Seeing that I was nervous while batting, he came to me and said, “Ache se batting kar, Dhoni ke saath khel raha hai”. It calmed me down a bit,” he said.

The shooting was grueling and sometimes, numerous retakes were done to get the perfect shot, he said, adding that the director was friendly and had made him feel comfortable.

The movie is slated for a September 6 release.

For a person who always loved to be on the stage and longed for the loud cheer of the audience since the age of seven, acting was an obvious career choice despite a degree in engineering from ITER, Bhubaneswar. Fortunately, he also had the support of his parents.

His childhood passion for acting saw the light of the day when he got a break in the television show CID and he then went on to act in several other serial including ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and sketches. He had also enrolled in Subhash Ghai’s film Institute, Whistling Woods International, for Masters and PG diploma in Media and Entertainment.

He was the runners-up in the reality show ‘EXPEDITION-Season 1’, where he also earned the title ‘overachiever’. He has worked as celebrity manager for Vidhu Vinod Chopra of ‘PK’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Munna Bhai’ fame.

When asked about his next projects, the model for brands like Knorr and Manyavar, said, “I am now working on a web series, which is to be released after five months. I have been shortlisted for some auditions but not confirmed yet,” he said.

He also acted in music video, including Zee Music’s ‘Zindagi Mujhe Pukare’.

Amrit believes in working hard and bettering his own performance. And he hopes to fulfil his dream in the next five years.
