New Delhi: After a 27-year hiatus, the BJP regained power in Delhi. Rekha Gupta, aged 50, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi. She becomes the fourth woman to attain such a distinguished position, joining the ranks of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi.
On Wednesday, Gupta was voted as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in Delhi, paving the way for selecting a Chief Minister. V.K. Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, officiated the oath-taking ceremony in the ancient Ramleela Maidan, where a significant political demonstration was orchestrated to commemorate the event.
Prominent political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended the gathering to commemorate this momentous occasion. Anticipation and optimism permeated the occasion as Delhi commenced a new epoch of government.
Following Gupta’s oath-taking ceremony, prominent BJP leaders were inaugurated as ministers in the new Delhi government. Parvesh Verma, the incumbent MLA from New Delhi, was among those who gave the oath alongside prominent members of AAAS, including Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
The swearing-in ceremony was a political milestone and a manifestation of the increasing party influence in the city. Under Gupta’s leadership in Delhi, the capital is poised for a political transformation, as the BJP aims to consolidate its influence and realise its future vision for the city.
