New Delhi: In a significant political statement that quashes all speculation about leadership succession within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to lead the party in the 2029 and 2034 Lok Sabha elections.

Singh made this declaration during an interview, asserting that there is no vacancy for the Prime Minister’s post for the foreseeable future.

“Prime Minister Modi is not only the undisputed leader of the BJP but also of the nation. He will remain in office for many years to come,” Singh said, adding that the party will contest the next two general elections under Modi’s leadership.

No Retirement in Sight Despite Age Debate

At 75, Modi’s age has often been a point of contention among Opposition leaders, many of whom have suggested that he should consider retirement. However, Singh dismissed such arguments, stating that Modi’s leadership remains unparalleled and irreplaceable. “There is no question of retirement. The country needs his vision and decisiveness,” he said.

A Relationship Spanning Decades

Reflecting on his long-standing association with the Prime Minister, Rajnath Singh shared that their relationship dates back over 35 years, beginning in Jhansi. “Over the years, I have seen him evolve, especially after becoming Prime Minister. He has taken some of the most complex decisions with remarkable courage,” Singh noted.

He also highlighted Modi’s global stature, mentioning that world leaders often consult him on international matters. “I have never seen any other Indian Prime Minister receive such personal birthday calls from global heads of state,” he added.

Modi’s Reluctance & The 2014 Mandate

Singh also recalled the events leading up to Modi’s nomination as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in 2013. He revealed that Modi was initially unsure about securing a full majority in the 2014 elections. “I used to tell him he would get a clear mandate, but he was not fully convinced,” Singh said.

He also clarified that there was no disrespect intended towards senior leader L K Advani during that transition. “Advani ji remains a respected figure in the party. But the mood of the nation was clearly in favour of Modi’s leadership,” Singh explained.

On Opposition Allegations

Addressing allegations of electoral malpractice by the Opposition, Singh dismissed them as baseless. “If they have evidence, they should approach the courts. Making wild accusations only undermines democratic institutions,” he said.

With this emphatic endorsement from one of the BJP’s most senior leaders, the message is clear: Narendra Modi is here to stay. As the party gears up for the next two general elections, the focus remains firmly on continuity, stability, and strong leadership.
