New Delhi: The INDIA bloc has decided to temporarily suspend large-scale protests in the national capital, with Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi directing alliance MPs and leaders to return to their respective constituencies. The decision stems from the approaching festive season, which is expected to draw massive crowds to the streets. However, smaller, localized demonstrations will continue.
Addressing a joint press conference, Gandhi clarified that the opposition’s agitations are not fragmented but unified under a single objective: the restoration of democracy in India. He accused the central government of dismantling the electoral system and severely restricting democratic expression, specifically pointing to recent curbs on protests at Jantar Mantar.
“The government has decided that Jantar Mantar cannot be used to express democratic sentiments. We will challenge this mindset,” Gandhi stated. He warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar that those responsible for undermining the Constitution will eventually be held accountable.
Gandhi also took a moment to thank the citizens of Delhi and the wider public for their support. He emphasized that the recent political pushback would not have been possible without the backing of ordinary, non-political citizens.
Echoing these sentiments, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission. Yadav accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of acting as a “puppet” on the instructions of the BJP leadership in an effort to crush democratic values.
“This is the country of Gandhi, Lohia, and Bhagat Singh. There is a continuous attempt to hijack constitutional institutions, whether it is the ED, CBI, or Income Tax,” Yadav remarked, claiming that the Election Commission has now gone a step further. He reaffirmed that the opposition remains firmly united and is prepared to make any sacrifice required to protect the nation’s democratic framework.
