Qatar LNG Plant Blast: Amir Calls PM Modi to Express Condolences Over Death of 12 Indians

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received a telephone call from the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who expressed deep condolences over the tragic loss of 12 Indian lives in a recent industrial blast at the Ras Laffan Industrial City.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the Barzan local gas supply plant, an LNG facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the explosion and subsequent fire were triggered by a technical malfunction during regular operations. The blast resulted in 13 fatalities, which included 12 Indian nationals and one Pakistani citizen.

Sharing details of the conversation on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated that he thanked the Amir for his phone call and for conveying his sympathies. The Prime Minister added that both leaders share the grief of the bereaved families and are praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.

According to official figures, 66 other individuals sustained injuries in the industrial accident. Citing Qatari authorities, the Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed that the condition of all the injured persons remains stable, and they are receiving appropriate medical treatment at local facilities.

The Ministry of External Affairs indicated that New Delhi and Doha are working in close coordination to address the aftermath of the tragedy. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India and Qatar stand in solidarity with each other and remain firmly committed to ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of their citizens.

The Indian Embassy in Doha stated on Monday that it is actively collaborating with Qatari departments to provide all possible assistance to the affected workers and their families. Diplomatic officials are currently prioritizing the administrative procedures required to ensure the mortal remains of the deceased Indian nationals are repatriated home as expeditiously as possible.
