Bengaluru: Puneeth Rajkumar’s family doctor has been provided police protection after several fans have been alleging that the Kannada superstar died due to “medical negligence”.
Puneeth passed away owing to a cardiac arrest a week ago.
Police teams have been posted outside the residence and clinic of Dr Ramana Rao.
“We are closely monitoring the situation near these areas with intensified patrolling to avoid any untoward incident,” said a senior officer of Bengaluru City Police said.
The Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) had written to Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai asking for protection to be provided to Dr Ramana and other medical professionals who had been treating the late actor.
“We strongly oppose attempts by the public to point fingers at the treating physicians, especially Dr Ramana Rao, who did his best… This kind of judgemental and hypercritical media frenzy is creating distrust in society as well as risk to the lives of the medical professionals who served the deceased,” PHANA president Dr Prasanna HM wrote.
He also pointed out that certain TV and social media platforms were “blaming lack of care by the medical professionals” who offered services to the late actor.
