Sangrur: The Sunam Court sentenced nine people, including Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, to two years in prison on grounds related to a family dispute that occurred in 2008.
According to reports, Arora had a family feud with his brother-in-law, Rajinder Deepa, leading to an incident where Arora and some accomplices attacked Deepa’s residence. The incident prompted Deepa to file a case, which culminated in the recent court ruling.
Arora is a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA representing the Sunam constituency in Sangrur district. Currently, he holds multiple cabinet portfolios in the Punjab government, including New and Renewable Energy Resources, Printing and Stationery, Employment Generation, Training Department, Governance Reforms, and Grievances Redressal.
In the 2022 assembly elections, Arora defeated Congress candidate Jaswinder Singh Dhiman by a significant margin of 75,277 votes. Subsequently, he was included in the AAP government cabinet, initially handling prominent portfolios like housing, urban development, and public relations.
In a recent portfolio shuffle, Arora gave up control of the Housing and Urban Development Department to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. However, he retained the Employment Generation and Training Department, along with the Governance Reforms, Grievances Redressal, and Printing and Stationery portfolios.
The Sunam Court’s verdict marks a significant development in the long-standing family dispute between Arora and his brother-in-law. The court’s decision is a reminder of the importance of resolving such disputes amicably and through appropriate legal channels.
