New Delhi: Brace yourselves for a chilly winter as dry weather is expected to persist across North India. While the morning and evening have already begun to feel colder, soon the entire day will be shrouded in fog and biting temperatures.
This winter has been relatively mild so far, with no severe cold spells experienced in Delhi-NCR until December 10th, which was the coldest day of the year thus far. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a change in fortunes.
A fresh western disturbance is expected to arrive on December 11th, bringing with it a cold wave that will sweep across Delhi-NCR and other parts of the country. This is also likely to trigger heavy snowfall in the hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
After experiencing a pleasantly warm December so far, residents of Delhi-NCR will feel the winter’s true sting from December 10th onwards. This marks the first time in 12 years that December 10th has been the coldest day of the season. Additionally, media reports suggest temperatures will plummet further after December 20th, making even daytime feel bitterly cold.
Unfortunately, the onset of the cold wave coincides with rising air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, which are currently classified as severe. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from both the cold and the harmful pollutants in the air.
